In this regard, the United Nations has warned the world that if necessary measures are not taken, the current food crisis may turn into a global catastrophe in 2023.
Ongoing drought and conflict in many countries and disruptions in grain deliveries due to the Ukraine-Russia war have exacerbated the food crisis and put millions of people at risk of starvation.
According to the World Food Program of the United Nations, about 50 million people in 45 countries are currently on the brink of famine, while more than 800 million people around the world go to bed hungry every night.
The International Monetary Fund has also warned in its report that the world is facing a food crisis as food insecurity has increased due to large price fluctuations. Millions of lives are at risk in Africa, the region most affected by the food crisis.
According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, one in five people on the African continent lacks a healthy diet due to reasons such as climate change, conflicts, the Corona epidemic, and the Ukraine-Russia war.
81 million people in East Africa are food insecure and 16 million East Africans do not have access to clean water for cooking and drinking.
