Gold heist at Toronto airport: $15 million worth of goods 'disappeared'

Police in Canada claim to be looking into a gold theft at Toronto Pearson International Airport, a location frequently used to transfer gold extracted from the province of Ontario.

Gold and other valuables worth more than 20 million Canadian dollars, according to Canadian authorities, were taken on Monday, April 17.

According to officials, the "high-value" airplane container was transported to a cargo holding facility after arriving at the airport in the evening.

The robbery is thought to have occurred there, according to the police.

The theft may be among the biggest in Canadian history, according to the evidence from the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, which took place in 2011 and 2012. 3000 tonnes of syrup, valued at 18.7 million dollars, had been stolen from a storage facility in Quebec at the time.

Inspector Stephen Dustein of the Peel Regional Police stated that his team was looking into "all avenues" and that Monday's event was the only one of its kind.

He mentioned the container's approximate five-square-foot dimensions but made no mention of its weight.

Additionally, officials have yet to disclose whose airline sent the package, its origin, or its final destination.

Police think organized crime gangs were involved in the theft, according to an article published by The Toronto Sun on Thursday.
