The US has decided to lift the ban on arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
The US State Department says that after the end of the ban by the Biden administration, Saudi Arabia will be able to give air-to-ground weapons.
According to the news agency, the US official confirmed the matter and told the news agency that it has been decided that arms sales to Saudi Arabia will be started on a case-by-case basis under the Conventional Arms Transfer Policy.
The US official said that Saudi Arabia has to see its side of the deal while we are ready on our side, the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia is likely to start from next week.
According to the British news agency, the US official said that the decision to lift the embargo on arms sales to Saudi Arabia was made in view of the reduction of tensions after the UN-mediated agreement between the Yemeni Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
He said that since the agreement was signed in March 2022, no air attack has been carried out by Saudi Arabia on Yemen, nor has there been any cross-border attack on Saudi Arabia by the Yemeni Houthis.
According to the news agency, the US official said that the Biden administration informed the Congress about the decision and told that the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia could start from next week and possibly on Friday the government will sell the weapons. A related notification will also be issued.
It should be noted that according to the US law, it is necessary to get the approval of the Congress before making any international deal related to the sale of arms.
